There's an elongated parking spot to the right after the toll, where people can stop easily before they speed up. Had lost of cars even crossing from the further side of the road. Sign Chambery, got me to the Gare. Should be perfect for going direction Italy too, and getting long rides.―friki

Great spot with loads of traffic. If you're getting here via Berchem station and want to cross the bridge, don't trust google maps. Had to take the long way to the gas station.Luckily didn't take too long to get a ride. Legend drove me all the way to Chambéry

For some reason I walked in here (2017) in night from the gas station few km in direction to the Chambery.Maybe because it was night and not much traffic so expecting to have more directly on pay tools.
(There is a bridge above train track from the gas, in bad condition atm, after that is a field, back then with horses (possibly a private property).
Rest is the normal road.
After arriving near the entry to this pay tools, realized there is a fence all over the place.
The under passage was closed by gate and with some cameras.
So had to climb over the fence somehow, hard to do with a heavy backpack, but got in.
Fence was bend a bit, so not the first one possibly to do it.)
Slept there till the morning on parking lot and got lift to Grenoble.

Got picked up by some guy going to Chambery from work (2017).Walked to the spot thru city and by the woods and field behind the train station.
Can't remember why I didn't stayed at the border crossing.
Maybe just exploring the city.
